Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about working with ScoutAbout Travel. If you don't find the answer you are looking for, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.
The Basics
While online sites are useful for research, a dedicated travel advisor provides personalized service, insider knowledge, and proactive troubleshooting that algorithms simply cannot. We save you time by vetting options, often securing exclusive perks (like room upgrades or resort credits), and act as your advocate if any flight delays or issues arise during your journey.
We are proudly based in Everett, WA, and love serving our local community. However, we have the capabilities to work with clients virtually across the United States.
Travel Planners International is our host agency. This means we are an independent small business that leverages TPI's massive buying power, extensive supplier relationships, and administrative support. It grants ScoutAbout Travel the credentials of a large agency while maintaining the personalized touch of a local business.
Services & Fees
In many cases, our services are covered by the commissions built into the price of travel suppliers (like hotels, cruise lines, and tour operators). For complex, highly custom itineraries that require significant research and logistics, we may charge a separate "Research and Professional Fee," which will always be discussed and agreed upon upfront before any planning begins.
We love exploring the entire world, but our key specialties include all-inclusive tropical getaways, custom European tours, family vacations, and cruises.
The Process
The simple answer is: the earlier, the better. For major peak seasons (like summer in Europe or holidays in the Caribbean) or specific high-demand cruise lines, planning 9-12 months in advance is recommended to ensure best availability and pricing. However, we can often craft wonderful experiences with shorter notice as well.
It typically follows this flow: 1. Initial Consultation (discuss dreams, budget, pace). 2. Proposal Phase (we present curated options based on your input). 3. Feedback & Revisions (we refine the plan together). 4. Booking & Deposit (we secure your choices). 5. Final Details & Documentation (receive your full itinerary). 6. Departure & Support (we are available while you are traveling!).
Insurance & Peace of Mind
We strongly recommend travel insurance for every major trip. While we hope for smooth travels, insurance protects your financial investment against unexpected cancellations due to illness or injury, provides medical coverage abroad, and assists with logistics in case of delays or lost luggage. We can provide quotes for comprehensive policies during the booking process.
If an unexpected disruption occurs, ScoutAbout Travel becomes your dedicated point of contact. Instead of you waiting on hold with airlines or hotels, we leverage our connections to rebook flights, cancel or adjust hotel reservations, and work to minimize fees and maximize refunds, standing as your advocate.
